Umbali Coasta Rica Running Across Continents from a Swahili Word
Umbali Coasta Rica started in Costa Rica in 2014 as a long-distance running movement built on simple faith in putting one foot in front of the other, together. The name itself comes from Swahili, umbali meaning distance, a nod to Kenya's running legacy. What began as a handful of runners has now spread across three countries, finding home in Colombia and Mexico. The Mexico City chapter brings together around 30 runners of all levels and ages. Two groups split coverage across the south and west of the city, ensuring more neighbors can lace up and belong. Every weekday morning at 6am, the crew gathers at Bosque de Tlalpan and Villa Olímpica. Early light, fresh air, and a community that never misses a beat.
