Run Pack Berlin

Running with the Pack: The Inspiring Journey of Berlin’s Remarkable Running Crew

Run Pack Berlin is a remarkable group of friends who have formed an unbreakable bond through their love for running. In the bustling streets of Berlin, a running crew unlike any other has taken the city by storm. Founded in March 2013 by six friends, this crew has defied all odds and created a tight-knit community that inspires and uplifts its members. As we delve into their inspiring journey, let’s explore the vibrant city they call home and the thriving running culture surrounding them.

Born to Run: The Birth of Run Pack Berlin and the Rebel Runners Who Defied the Odds

In the vibrant heart of Berlin, a revolution was ignited by a group of rebel runners who refused to let their dreams fade away. KathiFloHenrikKaiSven and Lukas, once part of the Nike-sponsored crew Graviteam, were cast aside when Nike shifted its focus elsewhere. But these determined souls weren’t about to let their passion be extinguished. They banded together, welcoming kindred spirits who shared their unyielding dedication and thirst for adventure. United by their shared goal of conquering the Berlin half-marathon, these rebels met regularly, pushing their limits on the streets while indulging in the sweet rewards of post-run coffee and cake.

How Run Pack Berlin Found Their Groove and Conquered the Streets

As their numbers grew, the need for organization and identity became evident. Inspired by the legendary Rat Pack of the 1960s, a glamorous group of entertainers, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr., christened themselves Run Pack Berlin. On that fateful day, March 18th, 2013, they established a Facebook group but needed a name reflecting their spirit. Though the founding members have evolved over time, the indomitable spirit of Run Pack endures, defying the odds and building a running empire that champions unity, acceptance, and an insatiable thirst for adventure.

The Powerhouses Behind Run Pack Berlin’s Camaraderie and Success

Henrik and Sven, the remaining originals, stand as beacons of inspiration, guiding the Pack into a future with boundless possibilities. They receive tremendous support from Mella, Anne, and Tessa, who have become integral crew members, strengthening the sense of camaraderie and shared passion for running. Together, they embody the resilience and unwavering dedication that defines Run Pack Berlin.

The Story Behind the Iconic Logos

Behind every great crew lies a symbol that encapsulates its spirit and identity. For Run Pack, it’s not just one but two distinctive logos that set them apart. The first is the easily recognizable RP—a sleek and dynamic representation of the crew’s initials, exuding strength and unity. But the second logo has taken on a life of its own: the infamous “Bärendogge.” Intended initially to depict Berlin’s heraldic animal, the bear, a humorous twist led someone to mistake it for a Great Dane, giving birth to the whimsical expression “Bärendogge.” This misinterpretation has become an integral part of the crew’s lore, adding a touch of playfulness to their identity. The first logos were crafted by the talented Björn, capturing the essence of Run Pack’s early days. Then, as the crew evolved, Kai took the reins and brought a fresh perspective to the logo design. In 2023, the honour fell to Luca, a member of the running crew “Runners of Rome,” to create the latest version of the emblem. Run Pack proudly showcases its journey, evolution, and unwavering commitment to embody the spirit of adventure, fun, and inclusivity through its logos.

The Power of Unity: Run Pack Berlin’s Core Values

Their unwavering commitment to core values sets Run Pack apart from other running clubs. For this crew, it’s not just about running; it’s about the people. Their motto, “For us, the runners make the run,” encapsulates their philosophy perfectly. Run Pack members are driven by their goals and ambitions but never take themselves too seriously. A shared beer before and even during a race is not unheard of, as they believe that fun and friendship go hand in hand.

Openness and inclusivity are at the heart of Run Pack’s ethos. While they are selective in their membership, it’s not based on elitism but on finding like-minded individuals who can seamlessly integrate into their community. They seek people to party, hang around, and travel with. It’s not just about the running; it’s about the bonds they form along the way. Social and emotional abilities are highly valued within the crew, making it a supportive environment where members take care of one another.

Unleashing the Concrete Jungle

As the sun begins to set and the city lights come to life, the runners of Run Pack lace up their shoes and hit the pavement. The Tuesday runs a beloved tradition, drawing in an average attendance of 20-40 members. The crew understands the importance of diversity in stamina and offers four different pace groups, ensuring that every runner feels included. There’s a group for everyone with paces ranging from 4:20 to 5:30 per kilometre. These invigorating 10K runs not only challenge the runners but also foster a sense of camaraderie that is unparalleled.

Run Pack embraces the summer track sessions on Thursdays and occasionally organizes Saturday long runs, providing ample opportunities for runners to push their limits and explore new routes. But the fun doesn’t stop there. The crew believes in the power of collective experiences, and their commitment to organizing events during the Berlin half and full marathons is a testament to their dedication.

Connecting the Dots: Berlin’s Running Crews

Berlin is a city that thrives on connection and collaboration. Run Pack engages with other running crews, such as Kraft Runners, Berlin Bagels, and Berlin Braves. This inter-crew camaraderie adds an extra layer of excitement and further enhances the vibrant running culture that permeates the city. The collective spirit of these crews reinforces the idea that running knows no boundaries and brings people from all walks of life together.

In the annals of running history, the KRAFT Runners stand tall as pioneers of a movement that defies expectations. It all began when friends crossed paths as pacers at the renowned NIKE+ Run Club. Their love for running was undeniable, but they craved more than a typical workout. They longed for a way to elevate their game, to go beyond their limits. And so, with a thunderous roar, the #geilballern movement was born—an unstoppable force of pushing boundaries and striving for greatness.

BerlinBagels represents a remarkable running crew that has transcended the boundaries of a shared hobby, evolving into a close-knit community. In the vibrant city of Berlin, they have found a home amidst a thriving running culture, where scenic routes, notable events, and diverse running crews contribute to an exciting and inclusive environment. Their inspiring journey is a testament to the transformative power of running and the bonds that can be forged through a mutual passion.

In the heart of Berlin, a fearless crew takes the running scene by storm. The Berlin Braves aren’t your average athletes—they’re an unstoppable force of nature, blending athleticism with a vibrant splash of creativity. As they dash through the city streets, they’re not just chasing personal bests but carving a new path for all runners. But their impact goes beyond the pavement. With an unwavering commitment to nurturing a supportive youth culture, the Braves are shaping the next generation of champions, one stride at a time.

In the heart of Berlin, a powerful force emerged in 2022—the After Work Track Club. Bearing a shared love for running, three friends defied the constraints of demanding jobs to chase their dreams. Despite the chaos of their daily lives, they unite under the open sky, finding solace and strength in each other’s company. Running is their sanctuary—an escape, a moment of tranquillity, and a catalyst for forging unbreakable friendships. Amongst this dedicated crew, two runners experienced a life-changing race, crossing the finish line in sync, forever sealing their bond.

In 2019, the Berlin Track Club emerged as the “BTC Racing Team,” with a firm belief in the collective nature of running. Their primary objective was to motivate runners to unleash their true capabilities and challenge the prevailing notion of running as a solitary activity. Presently, they provide comprehensive support to athletes participating in various distances, including middle distance and marathons, whether on tracks or roads. Co-founder Sven Rudolph aptly captures their mindset, declaring, “Our mission is to advance the sport of running and demonstrate its team-oriented nature, transcending the concept of individual runners.”
