Private Road Running Club: The Seoul-based Crew with a Heart for Inclusivity

In March 2013, three friends in Seoul, South Korea, combined their love for running and creative work. They founded the People’s Republic of Running Club (PRRC), also known as Private Road Running Club, with the mission to provide a tool to introduce running crews and connect runners from all over the planet. This crew is a hub for running teams and their cohorts, about being a part of a transnational social phenomenon and promoting mutuality, acceptance, and fun.

Private Road Running Club – A Crew Founded on Inclusivity

Hypebeast Korea editor-in-chief Hwanghah Jeong, graphic designer Hyein Lee, and photographer Yeonggyun Kang were the brains behind PRRC. They share a passion for inclusivity as a group, and the club’s name, “Private”, initially reflected the tight-knit community of friends they started with. Over time, however, the group atmosphere changed, and they adopted a more open-door policy to include people from all walks of life.

Group Runs with #CrewLove

And then there’s James, their frontman, spokesman, and pacemaker for the crew since the beginning. The crew’s core value is #CrewLove. Inclusivity is at the heart of Korean culture, as reflected in the language that uses collective pronouns. By including others, the experience of running together becomes accentuated. It’s no more extended exercise or a task. The group runs for PRRC are fun runs, and the typical routes range from 7 to 12 kilometres. On Sundays, Private Road Running Club has a separate group that does track intervals and long runs, preparing for a marathon or race.

Private Road Running Club’s unique brand image and culture

Private Road Running Club is unique in that it developed organically due to the creative nature of the group. The crew’s warmth, energy, and core values represent the city they live in and their street culture grassroots. As a result, they welcome people of all backgrounds and skill levels to join them for runs and events. And this inclusivity is not only reflected in their actions and brand image and created by their creative director, Make-1.
