Running with PIONEERS Run Crew in Boston: A Diverse Community
Founded by Sidney in April 2017, PIONEERS Run Crew is a running crew that meets twice a week in two different Boston neighborhoods: Savin Hill and Fields Corner.
The Start of PIONEERS Run Crew
After years of running, pacing, and coaching runners throughout Boston, Sidney grew frustrated with the lack of diversity in the Boston running community. He figured that if he couldn’t get friends and family to meet him Downtown, in the Back Bay, or in Cambridge for a run, it was time to bring running to his neighborhood of Dorchester. Thus, PIONEERS Run Crew was born.
A Welcoming Community
Unlike other running clubs in Boston, where speed and skill are the top priority, PIONEERS Run Crew has created a diverse and welcoming running community where running is just one part of the experience. PIONEERS is a lifestyle. They explore the city through running and inspire the community to be more health-conscious. They own their streets, motivate the next generation, embrace their culture, and, most importantly, have FUN. No runner is left behind! All paces are welcome! With over 500 members, PIONEERS Run Crew is a fantastic community for runners of all levels looking to connect with like-minded people from all walks of life.
Weekly Runs and Signature Events
In addition to their weekly Wednesday night runs (each week they offer 1-mile, 3-mile, and 5-mile options), PIONEERS Run Crew hosts three signature events each year. The first is the 26.TRUE Marathon in April, followed by the PIONEERS’ Anniversary 10k and Half Marathon in June, and The Hood Relay in August.
Boston – The Perfect Running City
Boston is the perfect city for runners. With its flat terrain and scenic views, Boston has a lot to offer for both recreational and competitive runners. There are plenty of routes to choose from, including the Charles River Esplanade, the Emerald Necklace, and the Boston Harborwalk.
The Boston Marathon
The Boston Marathon, one of the most iconic races in the world, is a must-do event for any serious runner. The city of Boston comes alive each year as thousands of runners from around the globe converge on the city to take part in this historic race. For the PIONEERS Run Crew, the Boston Marathon is a time to celebrate the sport of running and to support their fellow runners. Each year, members of the PIONEERS Run Crew can be found cheering on their friends and family as they race through the streets of Boston.
Crosslinking with Unnamed Run Crew
Boston is also home to other great running crews, like the Unnamed Run Crew, which is dedicated to creating a space for runners of all abilities to come together and enjoy the sport of running. The Unnamed Run Crew meets weekly for runs that take them through some of the most beautiful and historic parts of Boston. The crew is made up of runners from all walks of life, and their welcoming and inclusive environment is a testament to the power of running to bring people together.
