Banana Run Club: Pavement, Pace, and Post-Run Margaritas in Tenerife
A vibrant running crew has energized Tenerife’s capital with infectious energy and a welcoming spirit. Daniela and John created Banana Run Club to offer a place where people can pursue fitness and make friends. This simple idea has grown into a thriving community and a model of what running can achieve.
Banana Run Club’s philosophy is simple and genuine. The name has a double meaning: bananas are a favorite snack for runners, and the Canary Islands are known for them. This reflects the group’s focus on healthy living and local pride. Daniela and John wanted to create a space where everyone feels welcome, believing that running is for people of all ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds.
Banana Run Club is an inclusive group of more than 25 members. They’ve built a place for both seasoned marathoners and new runners to take on the roads together. Their weekly meetups focus on encouragement and shared experience, establishing their presence in the city’s running community.
Every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., Banana Run Club members bring energy and laughter to the streets of Santa Cruz. The group runs a lively 5k, with pace groups for everyone, whether you’re fast or just starting out. Afterward, they meet at Catrina Grill House to relax with beers and margaritas, turning each evening into a fun get-together.
Banana Run Club invites everyone in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, whether you live here or are just visiting, to join their Wednesday evening run. It’s a chance to run, share some laughs, and be part of a friendly community.
The year-round warmth of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a welcome contrast. At the heart of the Canary Islands, this lively city is the joint capital of the archipelago. Renowned for its scenery, culture, and the world’s second-largest Carnival, it provides a perfect backdrop for runners.
Local runners enjoy Santa Cruz’s scenery. A popular route is the coastal path along the shoreline, with sea breezes and Atlantic views. For a quieter run, García Sanabria Park offers vibrant plants, art, and ponds—a green oasis in the city.
Santa Cruz hosts many running events, drawing athletes from near and far. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Naviera Armas Marathon in November features marathon, half-marathon, and 8 K races along the coast. The Tenerife Trail Series offers challenging races throughout the island’s volcanic terrain, appealing to adventurous runners.
