ANTZ Colony RC: Connecting the Heartbeat of Kuala Lumpur's Running Scene

In the busy city of Kuala Lumpur, a running group has become a central part of the city's athletic community. ANTZ Colony RC was officially founded in 2020 by Mo and is co-led by a dedicated team of captains, including Kuyin, Hilary, and Adel. What started as one runner's passion evolved over ten years of building relationships with fellow athletes, culminating in the creation of this remarkable crew. Today, they are more than just runners; they are a community, a team, and a family.

The story of ANTZ Colony began with Mo's solo runs almost ten years before the group officially started. Over time, the relationships he developed with like-minded runners laid the foundation for the group's core values of unity and teamwork. Their guiding principle is simple: avoid politics and focus on effort, dedication, perseverance, and discipline. This mindset has drawn some of Malaysia's top runners, who regularly finish on the podium at major national events, all while creating an inclusive environment.

With over 100 members, ANTZ Colony is a vibrant hub for running enthusiasts in Kuala Lumpur. They work hard to keep their community informed and engaged through active social media updates, newsletters, and special announcements. Beyond just running, they often partner with health and fitness experts to offer members valuable insights, training advice, and discounts on races and gear. This dedication to adding value and fostering connections is a key part of who they are.

The crew’s culture is built on diverse programs and unwavering support. They offer activities for all levels, including track workouts, long-distance runs, casual fun runs, and challenging trail runs. Their weekly schedule is busy, with gatherings on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sunday mornings. A popular event is the Sunday "Car Free Morning KL” at 6:45 a.m., where participants can choose between 5km or 7km routes at different speeds. True to their inclusive spirit, each run always includes a dedicated sweeper to make sure no one gets left behind. They also include interval training, strength workouts, and yoga sessions to provide a well-rounded fitness experience.

ANTZ Colony RC welcomes everyone with open arms and hearts, inviting both residents of Kuala Lumpur and visiting runners. Joining is free—no membership fee required. The process is easy: follow their official Instagram, @antzcolony.rc, and reach out to get the latest schedule. They’re happy to give directions on when and where to meet for an unforgettable city run.

About the City

Kuala Lumpur, or KL, is Malaysia’s vibrant capital—a city where tall skyscrapers meet lush parks. As I write this from Berlin on a Friday afternoon, KL's tropical climate and lively energy feel like a world apart. This mix of rapid urban growth and natural beauty makes Kuala Lumpur a perfect and exciting playground for runners seeking adventure around every corner.

ANTZ Colony RC uses the entire city as its training ground. Many runs start in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), a charming residential area. For more rugged terrain, they explore Bukit Kiara, a large forest reserve with a network of trails that offer an escape from city life. Urban runs often feature landmarks like the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Merdeka Square, and frequently include the KLCC Park, with its 1.3-kilometer track and a view of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Kuala Lumpur's race calendar is packed with events for runners of all kinds. The largest is the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon, held annually, attracting thousands from around the world for full marathons, half marathons, and fun runs. For something different, the Electric Run Malaysia offers a nighttime 5K through the city, turning Kuala Lumpur into a colorful neon wonderland energized by music and lights.
